It could also depend on how much each person ate a Korean diet or used Korean mannerisms. Diet can have a major influence on scent and we often aren’t aware of the tiny differences in our body language. If the Nepalese man had been in Korea long enough to act and eat more like a Korean, then that could be why he didn’t have the same response. Maybe Kong just likes that more familiar smell.

He was afraid to leave his hut outside even when it was only the owner around. She later said they put him outside only recently. He more or less grew up in the office, and those people were his family. If the move was not done sensitively enough, he would consider it a punishment to be thrown out, and anyone not family will be scary, as well as all that open space. Nothing Mr Lee cannot fix, though. Best animal therapist ever.

He's not yet COMFORTABLE. He's eyeing them and probably now willing to give them a second chance at earning his trust. She had him since he was a puppy so I wonder what happened or is it just that he is only recently being 'exposed' to people of different Nationalities? Because if there were ONLY Asians in his life, this response makes 'perfect sense' to me and perhaps denotes a more 'familiar genetic tie' between African & Asian descendants. WOW!!!! Didn't know that a dog's sense of smell was THIS powerful! AMAZING.

Nothing spesific may have happened. The dog I s 1 year old, entering the faze of life when everything that was fun and ok, suddenly needs to be re evalued. He is growing up quite simply. I see it in my own dog, what used to be just fun some month ago, now needs to be checked and recheked, juuust in case. She is at the same agge, 1 year old. She is not fearful though, not in her i guess:P ( French mastiff). But. I have to make sure she sees a lot this coming year, and learn to relax around it.

@@Goldenhawk583 Exactly. Dog isn't mindlessly impulsive and all trusting anymore. Puppies are absolutely dumb when it comes to sensing danger. Suspicion is a valuable asset when it comes to survival.

Although, Kong didn't quite know how to respond, he wasn't at all 'frightened' by the Nigerian man, he seemed more confused. He even allowed the man to touch him. So then either it's a smell he's never smelt or a COLOR on a person he's maybe even never seen before or he doesn't have a bad 'frame of reference for DARK-SKINNED people (particularly 'Black Folk'). I would love to have seen how he reacted to Americans, both Black & White.

Your “foreign” assistants were awesome. Good work everyone. I once a a Pitt bull that was as gentle as could be. My kids (little) rode on her. For some reason, she did not like Caucasians. Which is strange because I am half Caucasian. We had her as a puppy so I don’t know why she was like that.

I wonder how Kong would have reacted if the foreigner was female. The behaviorist really took his time to understand Kong. He was so patient with Kong and never rushed him to do more than he was ready to experience.

I also thought it may be the higher garlic consumption or spices, my family eats a lot of garlic and some of our relatives don't, they seem to find garlic very smelly but we can't feel that since we eat it frequently

They do, different diet, hormone levels, grooming habits (for example using a lot coconut oil products for some nationalities) etc...

Maybe the dog is sensing that something is not right with those walking, talking, looking like humans on the outside but something is not right on the inside. I trust dogs' senses. Sometimes you wonder about some people, if they really have a human soul.
